The Atlanta Project
In 2000, this design was funded for an environmental installation in the Atlanta International Airport. The animated walk-through also won first prize at the A4 Architectural conference in Arnhem, Holland.

The 1.3 million dollar installation will be constructed in a 450' corridor, which contains bi-directional moving sidewalks. Much of the installation will be enhanced by animated lights, and synchronous sound.

The entrance to a forested canopy. Hanging leaf forms are back-lit by rear mounted neon lights. The multi-channel sounds of various bird calls emit along the path. Below is a view of the leaf canopy hanging from the ceiling. Individual neon bird forms are seen darting through the foliage.
This mature canopy foliage area shows occasional sunbeams. Here, the bird sounds become more highly energized as they move dynamically through the space.
This area is becoming more dense with groups of birds in flight. Various patterns are evolving accompanied by the building sounds of birds near and far.
Highest activity area of bird traffic and sounds. Abstraction through light movement creates complex overlapping flight paths.
Swamp sounds and rushing water focus attention back to the floor as the traveler prepares to exit the moving sidewalk. This open area simulates a pool. Expanding rings of light will create an illusion of drips on a wet surface. Fireflies appear.
